Roberto Valcavi MD, FACE, ECNU is specialist in Endocrinology and specialist in Internal Medicine.
In 1983 he attended the “Department of Endocrinology” directed by Prof. Reginald Hall at the University of Wales (UK). Since the 1990s he has been an active member of the SIUMB (Italian Society of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology) and directed the SIUMB training on thyroid ultrasound.
Since 1986 Dr. Roberto Valcavi was in charge of the Endocrine Unit at the IRCCS-Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova of Reggio Emilia, Italy. He started performing thyroid ablative therapies as early as in 1992. From 1996 to 2014 he was Director of the Endocrinology Department at (IRCCS – ASMN) in Reggio Emilia.
In 1999 he founded the AME (Italian Association of Endocrinologists).
In 2001 he held the 1st Joint Meeting AME – AACE (American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists) in Reggio Emilia and was elected AME President.
In 2003 he hosted at the IRCCS – ASMN a delegation of the Endocrine Department of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA, that participated in a Joint Meeting between the ASMN & Mayo Clinic Thyroid Diseases Centers.
In 2004 in Boston Dr. Roberto Valcavi received the “International Clinician Award” in recognition of the advances achieved in favor of clinical endocrinology and for the benefit of all endocrine patients. From 2000 to date he attended distinguished US institutions including the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
At present, Dr. Roberto Valcavi is Director of the E.T.C. (Endocrine & Thyroid Clinic) in Reggio Emilia, Italy, dedicated to the diagnosis and therapy of endocrine neck (thyroid, parathyroid, lymph nodes) benign and malignant lesions.
He is specialized in ultrasound- guided ablative therapy of thyroid nodules by radio frequency (RFA), minimally invasive surgery that is able to effectively treat more than 90 % of benign thyroid nodules and over 80 % of malignant thyroid nodules, saving the thyroid gland.
